About AglowTech

The primary purpose of AglowTech is to provide computer-based training and skill development to both those who are inexperienced and experienced in the computer technology and related disciplines.

In addition to training our students to pass the certification examinations, we also provide the opportunity for our students to develop the much needed skill and experience in applicable areas. Due to the proliferation of many people who are certified, most of the employers are now looking for those who have the industrial experience, with or without the certification. As a result, one of the paramount goals at AglowTech is to help our students find and secure a high paying job. Our students are trained in industrial-type setting with industrial-type and real world problems.

The programs at AglowTech are divided into four: (1) Certification training - for those who are only interested in undergoing the necessary training to take and pass some certification examinations.

(2) Certification and skill development - for those who are interested in preparing for some certification examination and also obtaining industrial-type experience to increase their chances of finding and securing a job (3) Skill development - for those who have undergone some training and are interested in obtaining industrial-type experience. (4) Corporate/Personal - for those who are interested in training in one or more specific areas as a result of career requirements or for personal reasons.

AglowTech is equipped and dedicated to helping every participant in its program to achieve his/her goals and expectations.

How the Programs Work

Certification Training

This program prepares the students for specific certification examinations. The materials covered are standard curriculum for the target certification areas. Currently, this program covers Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), A+ Technician Certification, Certified NetWare Engineer and Certified NetWare Administrator (CNE & CNA).
The students attend classes for a specified number of times a week and for a specified number of hours. Each class attendance comprises lecture and laboratory sessions. The lecture covers the theoretical concepts while the laboratory session involves hands-on problem solving by the students under the guidance of the instructor and a supporting laboratory attendant.

Certification and Skill Development

This program covers the Certification Training (see above) and also helps the students obtain valuable industrial-type experience. This program is particularly beneficial to those who intend to seek and secure employment after their training. It helps the students to not only obtain the necessary training, but also obtain the industrial experience and develop a skill.

After the training period, as described in the Certification Training section, participants in this program start a skill development program.
Skill Development period - During this program, each participant is assigned and/or will participate in one or more commercial projects. Each project and its environment are similar to the type of problems and environment that the students will be expected to work in, if they decide to seek employment with any company. For example, those who have undergone Microsoft Network Administration training will be assigned to the ECS’s Network Administration Department that supports the Software Development Department. In that capacity, the students will be involved in addressing both real and injected problems in the company’s networks. When possible, a student may be assigned to an outside job and he/she will be compensated with a specified percentage of any revenue generated.

For those who have undergone software development training, they will be assigned to the company’s Software Development Department where they will be involved in the design and development of commercial software products. Students in this program participate in all the phases of a software development process, utilize state-of-the-art development tools, and are subjected to all the scheduling constraints and deliverables. Each project is expected to deliver a commercially viable product, and the developers own a percent of any revenue generated from the software product.

Skill Development

This program is targeted to those who have undergone the necessary training, either formally or otherwise, and are interested in developing real experience to either increase their chances of obtaining a job or their competence. A precondition to admission into this program is a positive verification of the applicant’s prior training in the target area. The program covers the same activities described in the Skill Development subsection of the Certification and Development program.

Center for Software Engineering Excellence (CSEE)

The Software Engineering Excellence Lab. is the primary center for software and programming related training at AglowTech. The center is equipped with the state-of-the-art in software engineering tools and technologies.

Students currently or formerly enrolled at AglowTech for related training and skill development use the Center for their projects. At AglowTech, every student enrolled in software related training is required to complete a project at the Center using industry standard tools and technologies. The projects are conducted as real industry projects involving all the required and necessary processes. Participants are exposed to different techniques, methodologies, and processes prevalent in the industry as expected of the best current practices in software engineering.  Some of the resources provided in the laboratory cover Software Development Processes,  Software Engineering Tools, Software Analysis and Design Tools,  Code Management and Maintenance Tools, Configuration and Change Management Tools, Unit and System testing Tools. Further information and details can be obtained at http://aglowtech.com/csee/

Corporate/Personal

This program is developed for those who are interested in training in one or more specific areas as a result of their career requirements or for personal reasons. Under this program, companies send one or more of their employees to be trained in some specific areas. For corporate training some exceptional conditions apply which include group discounts and negotiated program contents and duration.

On the other hand, individuals participate in this program for personal reasons, which may include the desire or need to know more about certain aspects of the computing technology and industry. Another reason may be to acquire the knowledge to enhance one’s ability to use some of the software tools for personal or business use. Since many of the people in this program may have had rudimentary exposure or experience with computers, the courses are taught with special attention.

This program is restricted to only individual courses (see Course Offering section below).

Training Policies and Procedures

The policies and procedures described here apply to all trainees at AglowTech.

Grades and Records

Grades represent the quality of the student’s performance, measured against standards of knowledge, skill, and understanding, as evaluated by the instructor. At AglowTech, there are no formal examinations, however, there may be tests given to access a student’s understanding and progress in a given course. When applicable, a transcript is maintained about the courses taken with the grades attained. The transcript records are stored in computer format and are expected to exist beyond the life of the institution. Transcripts are available free within five years after the completion of a course or program. After that period, the transcripts will be archived and a fee of $3.00 will be required to retrieve a transcript. In the case that the Center stops functioning, all of the students’ transcript records will still be accessible (read-only) to a designated company, which can be obtained from the New Jersey State Department of Education.

Students are expected to work hard and actively participate in their respective programs to fully understand the course materials and the skill development-projects.

For those programs that require a letter grade, the following grading system will be used:

Grade Score Points Description

A 90-100 4 Excellent

B 80-89 3 Good

C 70-79 2 Satisfactory

D 60-69 1 Poor

F 0-59 0 Failure

INC 0 Incomplete

WD 0 Withdrawal

WP 0 Progressive Withdrawal

WF 0 Failing Withdrawal

For those courses that don’t require a scoring system, an S (Satisfactory) or U (Unsatisfactory) grade will be assigned.

Evaluation Techniques

For some of the training courses, one or more tests may be given before the session is over. The tests will be developed, administered, and graded by the course instructor. The tests may be in the form of written examination or laboratory exercises. The purpose of these tests are to measure, whenever possible, the students’ understanding of the materials that have been covered. Scores will be assigned for each student’s solution - tests scores that are below 75% may indicate some problems in a student’s understanding of the materials. Special arrangements and counseling may be necessary to help the student improve. Students will be adequately informed about their progress in a course, as determined by the instructor.

Attendance

Attendance at all regularly scheduled meetings of a course, including the laboratory sessions, is expected. A student is permitted to make up any regular part of a course, when the reason for absence is beyond the student’s control.

Code of Conduct

The following code of conduct applies to all employees and students at AglowTech:

1. No form of bias (ethnicity, race, gender, religion, national origin, etc.), whether express or implied will be tolerated.

2. No violation of any local, state, or federal law will be tolerated within the Center's premises.

3. No intentional or controllable disruption of the activities in the Center will be tolerated. The activities include, but not limited to, teaching, lectures, laboratory sessions, etc.

4. No form of sexual harassment or sexual favoritism will be tolerated.

5. Stealing, damaging or attempting to damage any of the Center's property or the property of a student will not be tolerated.

6. None of the Center's computing resources should be used for personal or private business activities.
This does not include a student's need to read his/her email messages.

7. Every student is expected to attend classes and laboratory sessions clothed decently.

Conditions for Dismissal

A student may be dismissed from the Center as a result of one or more of the following:

1. Serious and/or flagrant violation of the school rules, regulations, or code of conduct policies.

2. Unexcused absences from classes for 40% or more of the class sessions.

3. Serious and unjustified financial delinquency with respect to the tuition payment.

When a student has been notified of a dismissal, he/she has 3 days to appeal the dismissal decision. The appeal must be in writing and to the Director. A appeal team, appointed by the Director, reviews the appeal and makes a recommendation to the Director. The student may be invited to speak with the appeal team. The Director makes a decision based on the recommendation. The decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Student Complaint/Appeal Process / Resolution Policy

When a student has a complaint or would like to appeal a dismissal, he/she MUST make a written appointment for an interview with the School Director. The request should include the following:

  1. Student’s full name, Social Security Number, and full current address
  2. Description of the concern including dates, times, instructors and/or other students involved
  3. Signature and date
  4. At least three dates that the student will be available for a meeting with the school Director and/or appeal panel.

The school Director will notify the student in writing of the appointment date in which the concerns or appeal will be addressed. Every effort will be made to amicably address and resolve the issues. If and when necessary, a panel of selected instructors may be organized to resolve the issues. Subsequent to the meeting, the student will be notified in writing about the outcome and the panel’s decision is final.

Readmission Policy

All reentry and readmission requests must be done in writing to the Center Director. A positive response to the request depends greatly on the reasons for dismissal. If a student was dismissed due to his/her conduct with regards to the Center’s rules, regulations, and code of conduct, then a team (comprising staff and students) will review the student’s request. The decision of the review team determines the fate of the student.

If a student was dismissed as a result of tuition payment delinquency, then it’s possible for the student to be readmitted depending on the time of the session and meeting a minimum tuition payment established by the Director.

In the case that the student was dismissed due to unacceptable frequency of absence, then the student may be readmitted to complete the program in another session – starting at an applicable time during the new session.
